Theatre anyone?

I am taking a literature course right now and one of the requirements is to attend a play. It could be anything from a high school drama department to a Broadway play. I am thinking of going to Defending the Caveman or maybe, if some girlfriends would be interested, Girls Only: The Secret Comedy of Women.

Any takers?

that boy

Okay, just to keep things balanced, as every good parent knows, a quick story also about Dillon.

This last weekend was a hockey weekend. Of course it was, it was a long holiday weekend wasn't it? Littleton hosted a tournament this weekend and Dillon had five different games to play in. His team did pretty well and they made it to the semi-final game Monday morning. It was a great game, very evenly matched. One team would score, and the other would soon even it up.

We were headed into the last two minutes of play when all of a sudden, the other team scores. They are up by one!

Dillon is in goal.

Kevin is coaching.

The play continues. Kevin calls Dillon to the bench so that we could have an extra shooter on the ice.

Dillon heads for the bench when the other team breaks away with the puck.

They are headed for the empty net.

Dillon attempts to dive back into place, but just barely misses the puck.

They are now up by two points and although Littleton was able to score another goal, they still lost the game by one.

Dillon is upset and crying in the locker room. Kevin, ever the coach, leans in to talk with him. "So Dillon, did you learn anything today?"

Without hesitation he answers...

"Yeah, never listen to your dad when he is calling you to the bench!"

that girl

On Tuesday I was working at the school when I saw the Spanish teacher walking down the hall. "Your daughter..."

Now I stop here to let you in on something. This is not the first time someone has said these words to me. Not the second either. This is a familiar phrase for us. It is usually followed by a head shake, a laughing head shake, a "I can't believe what I just saw/heard" look. The phrase is even said often around here.

On Sunday Bailey asked me to put lots of little braids all over her head so that she could have wavy hair in the morning. I told her I would, so we washed up her hair and braided away. The next morning, she was loving the braids and was afraid to take them out. When she did finally take them out, she was afraid to brush her hair. She loved her wavy locks.

Tuesday morning came and it was time to head back to school (there was no school Monday). Although she was still afraid, she did allow me to brush her hair and with her new shoes on her feet and her wavy hair she was ready for school.

"Your daughter was very popular in Spanish this morning." Ms G says with a laugh.

"Oh yeah?"

"We were working on learning how to say 'my friend's name is...' and almost every student in the class would say (in spanish) 'my friend's name is Bailey Whalen'"

Ms. G continued on..."I asked her about it at the end of class and with a wave of her hand and she told me it was because of her hair and her new shoes."

Now I just shake my head and laugh.

"That girl is something else."

Oh yes, she is.

Here we go again...

A few things to note...

One: I have another interview tomorrow. Part time but every day. Still teaching. 6-8 week assignment.

Two: I have my third serious sore throat in 50 days! Beginning to wonder what the heck is going on.

Any nice thoughts would be appreciated. =)

A more fun post will be coming soon. I promise.
