New pages, old beach photos

I knew that my sister would be scrappin' at the beach during nap time, so I had to bring along a few things to work on. So thanks to her, I got some older pictures taken care of. These are from our trip in August 2005.

Time to detox

We are back from the most fabulous vacation! AHH...a week at the beach. Fabulous weather, calm surf, nice looking lifeguards (sorry, honey), great walking exercise. Fun was definately had by all! Now it's time to detox.

Now I know that some people come back from vacation having to detox from adult beverages. Not me. I have to get fried food and ice cream back out of my system. I thought that I could eat relatively well while I was there, but I had forgotten that the only thing on the boardwalk menu was grease.

Oh it was so good though. No complaining here, but my body definatly needs help now. All day today it was looking for the fried food and ice cream. Then my sweet hubby brings home Cold Stone. Yep, I ate it.

I guess detoxing will have to wait for another day.

Time for some Fun in the SUN!

Why is it always when you are getting ready to leave on vacation that thing go wrong? Somthing important breaks, a child gets sick, you have much in the way of homework due....

So this week as we have been preparing for our Beach trip, we have experienced one sick kid, one allergic reaction, one meltdown (me), 2 papers due, one book database due, and one thematic unit that will be due the day after I get home. But on the positive side of things, my house got cleaned, a really fun library trip happened, clothes got washed, but not folded yet. Not too bad.

So Avery woke up Tuesday morning with a little cough and sneezing. Great, one day in a day care center while I was at jury duty, and she comes home sick. Luckily it's not too bad. She is sleeping really well, and only a little extra whiney.

On Wednesday Bailey fell into a pine bush on our way to Karate lessons. Bailey is allergic to pine. I never really thought past Christmas trees, because it has not been a big issue. Fresh tree in the house, sick kid. I have never seen pine actually imbedded into her skin before. Well- it really wasn't pretty. Literally one minute after her fall, her finger was two times it's original size. It swelled up so fast, and was all blue... I would have sworn that she had broken it, but then I remembered her allergy. We rushed over to the grocery store and got some medicine. After an hour, it already looked much better.

Today, I had 2 papers due in my class. I stayed up late last night and got one done. Today I tried to work on the second one while many a youngester ran while in the house. Granted they were my youngesters, but that did not stop me from having a controlled breakdown! I very calmly picked up the whiney one, and walked out the front door. Seriously.

I went to the neighbor, knocked on her door, and said "can I impose on you for 1/2 hour?" Then proceded to hand over whiney one. The others had followed me out the door to see where I was going. I left them behind as well and came home to a quiet house where I was able to swear at the computer quite loudly. The second paper was finished in this manner.

I have turned in my book database and am currently working on my thematic unit. Who knows, I may even get packed before I have to leave tomorrow!

Jury Duty

I had my first experience with Jury Duty yesterday. It was interesting.

Kevin ended up taking 2 of the kids, D & B, while I put Avery in the court sponsored daycare so she could be close to me. It was right across the street from the court so I could get her at lunch time. We sat in the park outside and enjoyed the nice weather and lunch together.

After waiting most of the morning, my number was called at 11:15. Those of us that were left in the room were being to feel that we were going to be let go, and then the jury phone ran again. My number was the 12th number called, so I was actually on the jury. Because it was so close to lunch, they let us go eat and told us to report back at 1:00. When it was time, we lined up and were taken into the court room.

It was a small court, it couldn't have held more than 20 spectators or so. There was the jury box, the prosecution table with one lawyer, and the defense table with 2 lawyers and a client. The judge was in his rightful place at the head of the room.

We found out about what was being asked of us and we asked if we felt that we could perform these duties. Most of us could. 1 gentleman didn't speak english and he was released. Then we were told about the case. The accused was being charged with child abuse, disorderly conduct, and something else. Oh man, child abuse? really? Luckily I could not see the defendent from where I was sitting. I didn't want to.

The lawyer for the procecution went on to interview us. She asked us all questions about what was child abuse and what was discipline. Then about where the line was crossed, did choking, slapping on the face or throwing a child to the floor count as child abuse? How about your temper? Have you ever gotten angry at your child? How did you handle it? And on and on.

Then the defense has their turn. The lawyer asked us if any of us were related to a cop. Did any of us believe that children lie? A few more personal things to individual people regarding their jobs, and then he explained that the procecution was going to introduce evidence from a prior trial. How did we feel about that? I aparently nodded or something, because the lawyer clued in on me. How do you feel about that? I said that I thought it could show a pattern of abuse, especially if they had been seperated and were on a visitation or something of the sort.

The questions continued and then the lawyers were to choose 6 of the 12 jury to stay on for the trial. Each side immediatly struck down 2 people, then each side was able to knock off one more. I was the last one to be excused.

Thank goodness. I did not want to hear any testimony about what had happened! I know that I could have helped a child (the child was 13), but I have faith that the evidence would speak for itself. I hope the right thing was done.

I am just glad that I got to see part of it. Being on a jury is kinda cool.

A new sport

Yes, another sport has come to our house. Dillon has decided to play coach pitch baseball this summer. So I decided to take him to the Rockies game on Thursday. He loved it!

Just one of the girls

Just look at Avery trying to hang out with the big girls....

A new page or two

I got some old pictures scrapped last night. Fall 2005 and May 2005...

Last day of 2nd grade

Today is the last day of 2nd grade for big "D". I hope he has a great day!

I am taking bets on when the first "I'm bored" hits....I am taking 10:15 tomorrow morning.

Anyone else want in on the action?

Bailey is ready for the beach

Our neighbor had to get a new set of flippers and the set came with a mask and breather thing. He didn't need these, and so Bailey got to bring them home.

Ocean tidal pools, here she comes.

First words?

So the other day Kevin tells me that Avery said "all done" when she finished her dinner. Hum....I thought...really? Usually a child says "Da Da" or "Ma Ma" first. So I just say "okay, honey."

We had been teaching her our version of "all done" in sign language. Shaking both hands. Well today at lunch, I tried to get her to say it. She looked at me and laughed. Pulled on her hair. Put her hands in her mouth. But no "all done" in words or hands.

Then I go to change her pants. She really didn't want to be there anymore. She rarely sits still. (I know this sounds familiar, kinda like my other two kids.) So she looks up at me and says "A DA" and I say "all done?" She says "a da" like "duh mom, that's what I said."

Okay. Well I guess she has her first words.

The big Friday clean

A pattern seems to be developing. I think I have it figured out now. Not that that makes it any easier. And not to say that it doesn't drive me crazy in the mean time.

Friday mornings...I kinda lose it. I turn into cleaning rampage woman. Stay out of my way!

This house is trashed by Friday. But because of my schedule, I can't usually do anything about it. I usually can keep up with the kitchen, somewhat. The floors get swept daily. The counters wiped down. The dishes get done (thanks to Kevin). But there usually are stacks of clean clothes laying on the living floor. Toys everywhere! My desk is trashed. And it really stresses me out. But after the big clean. Peace is restored.... for a while at least.

This week, I had 4 papers due. 3 were due last night, and 1 is due by tomorrow. I was up until 4 AM on Tuesday night/Wednes morning, and then up to 2 AM Wednes night/Thurs morning. BUT the papers got done. And I actually liked them. If you need a good paper to put you to sleep though, feel free to request my multicultural education paper. Lots of law references. Now I have to settle in and write the one due tomorrow. It is on Jack and the Beanstalk, three different versions of it.

Oh- I just got my results from the state licensing exam....I PASSED!!! With flying colors. YEAH! Now if only my sub license would come through. I submitted it in February. You would think I would have heard by now. And yes, I have confirmed that they did get it.

Enjoy your weekend. I'll be back again probably next week.
Beach week count down...2 weeks.
I bought my swimsuit today. I am so excited!!!!!
