The girls and I headed to Red Rocks on Monday morning to do a photo shoot for my art class. I went with an idea in mind about the kind of shot I wanted to get. I realize now how funny that is.









I had no idea it would be so windy that I could barely stand out there much less the girls. There was no way I was going to get them to go hiking up the little trail, much less out of the parking area. They did take a few steps out of the car and then demanded to be let back in. oh well.

At least I came away with a few shots I can use.

A day at the zoo...

I knew when I woke up this morning that I was going to have to find something to do today with the kids. Dillon and Avery were already fighting and we needed a change in scenery.
Avery loved "my monkeys" and the "teddy bears".
Dillon loved the monkey scratching his butt. (typical nine year old)
Bailey loved the bears.

Hmmm...

Something you think is cute in a two year old... but you don't want to see again in 20 years!

Art class

I have three class left to finish before I can start my student teaching in the Fall. Two of them have already begun, art appreciation and literature, and the third starts next week.

I admit that I have never been one to roam aimlessly through art exhibits, but have been known to enjoy DAM every once in a while with the kids. They do a great job getting the kids interested and interacting with the art around them. We particularly love the western art section. So when I read that my assignment for the week was to find an art exhibit and explain one piece that speaks to you, I had to pause for a moment and think about where to go.

As I have explained before, I don't like to do what the rest of the crowd is doing and from reading the postings from my classmates, most of them headed out to the Denver Art Museum. I had a challenge. I needed to find a new place to head. Dare I go to my professor's gallery? I do dare.

Avery and I packed up and headed out yesterday to enjoy some time in the Santa Fe art gallery district. The gallery that we were headed for was not yet open and so we wondered down the street window gazing into other galleries. In the window of the Van Straaten Gallery I noticed a painting that I needed to look at more closely. I soon discovered that they were hosting a show of artwork from Katherine Bowling. Her pieces really spoke to me through the use of color and blurred images that made me stop to imagine what a closer look might bring. One piece in particular called Pond really held my attention. When looking at the piece, I found myself walking down the path woven into a gentle slope of wildflowers and stopping beneath a stand of trees in order to enjoy the beautiful day with the reflection of light coming from the nearby pond. If I had continued on the path it would have carried me up beyond the pond and into the distant tree-line. The dark olive and pine colors with accents of creams found a serenity in me while the bursts of colorful wildflowers brought a smile to my face.

I really enjoyed this little walk and wanted to share it with you as well.

Home again, home again...

Dillon and I are back from our long weekend in Fargo, ND where we went for huge tournament. 60 teams in his age range!!! Dillon's team ended up with a winning record of 3-2 on the weekend. They had some good games and a few really bad ones.

I will update you further, but for now I need to go and finish my homework that is due in 2 hours. =)
