Well, here it is. The much awaited, first day of school. Bailey's first day in Kindergarten and Dillon's in 3rd grade.
A new requirement this year for Kindergarten was for a parent to attend with the student. For those of us with older children in the school, this seemed a bit much, especially by the end of hour one, when we were all looking at our watches and then at each other. What are we supposed to be doing here? I guess helping the students become oriented in their new atmosphere. No real learning happened, or was expected. The teacher ran out of things for us to do and seemed very uncomfortable. Otherwise, the room was well set up, the kids all ready to learn, the teacher seems quite professional. I think once they get going, everything will be great.
I did go down and peek into Dillon's class as well. They were all at their desks, listening intently to the teacher, looking like real students. Not bad for the first day.
There are big expectations for this school, and today proved that they will most likely be met without a problem.
