I do not consider myself an artist by any means. Creative, yes, Artistic, no. There is a big difference in my eyes.
Being artistic, in my eyes, requires more flexibility in your person. Being able to see things in a completely different way. Living in or around a "circle", instead of a box.
I am not flexible. Physically, ha ha, or mentally. Things are scheduled. They have order. They are what they are. Schedules and routines are my friends.
Being creative, in my eyes, allows for being open and letting ideas come. Most of my creative moments come when I am doing mundane things or trying to go to sleep. If I need to think something through, I usually head to the computer to play hearts. While I am playing, I am not thinking. But my mind is working around the idea. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
The reason all this is coming to light is because my sister showed me Ali Edwards blog last week. For those of you scrapbookers, no introduction to who Ali Edwards is is needed. For those non scrappers- she is a queen in the scrap arena. She is a part of why we love Creative Keepsakes magazine. Anyways- Ali asked the people on her blog to write out a Creative Manifesto.
"What is a manifesto? According to my handy dandy computer dictionary a manifesto is 'a public declaration of policy and aims, esp. one issued before an election by a political party or candidate.' Essentially, it is a cool, fancy name for a mission statement - a way to describe your overall creative purpose."
So it got me thinking about why I scrap. So this is what I came up with...
Play
Remember
Document
Explore
Make it mine
This is why I scrap. So next time I am out wanting to spend money on this craft when I shouldn't, I need to think about this. And remember that I am just documenting the history of our family and that it is a very worthy cause! =)

Hey! Cool! I was thinking that you were to say that when you were shopping for scrapbooking stuff that you realized you didn't NEED so much, since your goals were to document. Funny twist there at the end!
